Prompted to Think About Purchasing All-Pro Wide Receiver in Blockbuster Trade
The Detroit Lions have positioned themselves to contend for the Super Bowl in 2024 thanks to their early offseason actions. That doesn’t mean, though, that they couldn’t sign another elite player. Nick Faria of Pro Football Network suggested Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs as the potential standout.
Faria listed the Lions as one of Diggs’ five possible landing destinations.
“A struggling club in need of a wide receiver to complement a reliable quarterback and developing outside receiver? Diggs is a talented player, and the Detroit Lions are undoubtedly a team that could be interested in signing him, according to Faria.
“Jared Goff just finished a fantastic season, leading Detroit to its first conference title in many years. The Lions ought to exert every effort to make the most of their championship window, even if it involves rearranging some draft and cap space.
During the 2023 season, Diggs recorded 107 receptions for 1,183 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. His four seasons in a row with over 100 catches and 1,100 yards were noteworthy.
The addition of that caliber of playmaking to the Lions offense, which in 2023 ranked second in the NFL in passing yards, is a frightening prospect for the opposition.
Is Stefon Diggs Up for Trade with the Buffalo Bills?
Diggs appears to have voiced his dissatisfaction in Buffalo in the past few years when the team hasn’t lived up to his expectations.
Diggs most recently caused a stir with a mysterious tweet that some speculated would portend a move away from Buffalo.
Ready for anything,” Diggs posted on X, the former Twitter.
Dan Graziano of ESPN, however, does not believe that Diggs’ time in Buffalo is drawing to an end based on the tweet.
According to Graziano, who spoke with Bleacher Report, “When I called around about this to people close to the situation, most of what I got back was, ‘This is Stefon Diggs, he does this a lot and ultimately they’ve been able to patch it up with Buffalo.'” “At this point, I anticipate that he will play for the Bills this season.
Diggs’ deal runs through the 2027 season, and in 2024, he will be subject to a $27.85 million cap charge, per Spotrac. If the Bills traded Diggs this offseason, it would come with a hefty dead cap charge.
Diggs’ Potential Fit with the Lions
It is doubtful that Diggs will be traded at this time. If he did become available before to the draft, though, the Lions present a compelling destination.
Even without Diggs, Detroit still possesses a deadly passing attack, but Josh Reynolds, a seasoned wide receiver, is a free agent. Last season, he finished second on the team among wide receivers with 40 catches, 608 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns.
