According to a statement released by his family on Sunday, Terry Venables, the renowned player who helped Barcelona win the 1986 European Cup and led England to the semi-finals of Euro 96, passed away at the age of 80.
The family added, “We are completely devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who went away peacefully yesterday after a protracted illness.”
“We would like to request privacy during this deeply sorrowful time so that we can grieve the loss of this wonderful man who we were so fortunate to have in our lives.”

“During this extremely trying time, our sincere condolences are with Terry’s friends and family.
“To show our respect, we will clap for one minute before the game starts, and our players will wear black armbands when we play Aston Villa this afternoon.
“Terry, rest in peace.”
After accepting the position, Venables brought Gary Lineker to Tottenham in 1989 and signed him to Barcelona from Everton in 1986. Lineker honored “a friend.”
“Heartbroken to learn about Terry Venables’ passing. He posted on X, the former Twitter platform, saying, “The best, most innovative coach that I had the privilege and pleasure of playing for.”
But he was much more than just a fantastic manager—he was vivacious, endearing, intelligent, and a friend.
“We shall sincerely miss him. My sympathies and affection are sent to Yvette and her family. Terry, RIP.
Venables managed Queens Park Rangers among other teams during his tenure. Despite being a second-tier team, QPR advanced to the 1982 FA Cup final under his leadership. In addition, he managed the Australian national team.
Terry Venables has received recognition from the League Managers Association for his noteworthy contributions to the field of football management.
