STEEL CITY BOUND: Mason McCormick a Roosevelt and SDSU graduate was selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round…
Dakota News Now (Sioux Falls, SD) – Mason McCormick, an offensive lineman at South Dakota State and a former Roosevelt Rough Rider, was selected by Pittsburgh with the 119th overall choice in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL on Saturday morning, and he will soon be arriving in the Steel City.
He redshirted in 2018 and worked his way up to become a guard mainstay for SDSU’s “605 Hogs” offensive line. In the spring of 2020–21, he became a full-time starter and started a run of 57 straight games that would eventually make up his 70 career games. Additionally, he played a crucial role in clearing the path for SDSU’s potent offensive onslaught and their consecutive FCS National Championships in 2022 and 2023.
After he graduated and showed well at both SDSU’s pro day and the NFL Draft combine, his stock increased even further.

He was picked in the 34th round of the NFL Draft, making him the sixth in the previous seven seasons. The New York Jets would choose former teammate Isaiah Davis in the fifth round. Since 1995, when the Green Bay Packers selected Adam Timmerman in the seventh round, Mason is the first offensive tackle from SDSU to be selected in the draft.
