SAD ANNOUNCEMENT: Newcastle has suspended its star player without pay for the rest of the season.
Anthony Gordon has avoided a two-game suspension for accumulating yellow cards, and Bruno Guimaraes will be looking to do the same this week.
Premier League rules specify that any player who receives 10 bookings before the season’s 33rd game would be suspended for two games.
Gordon had eight yellow cards going into Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham, thus he was cautioned at Craven Cottage and will face a ban this weekend at home against Spurs (our 32nd game). He is now safe after avoiding a booking over the weekend.
Bruno avoided a yellow card for the 13th consecutive game at Fulham, but Tottenham is the final game when he is at risk. If he is booked against Ange Postecoglou’s side, he will be forced to miss our trip to Crystal Palace and the home game against Sheffield United later this month.
Fingers hoped he doesn’t fall at the final hurdle – losing Bruno for two games would be devastating considering our midfield issues – but it’s great to know Gordon as we approach the final seven games of 2023/24.
