Another Prokick Australia product, Johnston, was drafted by AFL club Melbourne in 2010 but never played a senior game. He has been in the NFL since 2017, when he was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles and spent three seasons with them.
He has played 95 games and was a member of the Texans’ NFL playoff team, which defeated the Cleveland Browns before succumbing to the Baltimore Ravens.
“I’m super excited to be here,” Johnston remarked as he signed his contract.
Johnston is one of several Australian punters in the NFL, including Michael Dickson of the Seattle Seahawks, Lou Hedley of the New Orleans Saints, and Mitch Wishnowsky of the San Francisco 49ers.
Jordan Mailata is also a major member of the Eagles’ offensive line, and Daniel Faalele (Baltimore Ravens) and Adam Gostsis (Jacksonville Jaguars) are among the league’s nonpunters.
