Steelers top investor blasts Steelers on the recent signing of a Super Bowl player.
According to several rumors, some Pittsburgh Steelers players favor one of Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph as their quarterback. Some believe that re-signing Rudolph may result in a split locker room. Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette does not share these fears for one simple reason.
“I think if Kenny Pickett shrinks or wilts under competition like that or in the face of adversity, then they know right then that he’s not the guy for the future” , he stated in an interview with 93.7 The Fan. “I don’t think the Steelers should be afraid of any kind of competition for him, whether it’s within the locker room or on the practice field or anything like that” .
I see sense in his statements about Rudolph’s presence. Pickett either accepts the challenge and, if necessary, takes control of the locker room, or he gives up. In either case, you received your answer. It is not always about the likelihood of disagreements, but rather the environment that fosters them.
We’ve reached that unpleasant point in the offseason when everyone just says what they think without knowing why. Beat writers can be divided into camps based on different issues. Many believe Rudolph signs somewhere, while others believe he resigns. Many more believe the Steelers do not intend to compete in a legitimate manner. Fittipaldo is not among them. He believes Rudolph can get the job if he resigns and outperforms Pickett. “They’ll do whatever it “Best for this football team,” he stated. “They did what’s best for this football team with a week to go in the regular season” .
He’s referring to the Steelers’ final two games, when Pickett returned from an ankle injury. Rudolph started the previous two games and turned the season around. Head coach Mike Tomlin decided to start Rudolph in the conclusion of a must-win game, with Pickett serving as his backup. He even went so far as to start Rudolph over Pickett, his designated starter, in a postseason game.
I find it difficult to accept those decisions as mere artifacts of the time. Pickett faced no challenges to his position prior to his injury, but Tomlin chose to sideline him in favor of Rudolph. He has already demonstrated that he is prepared to make that difficult decision.Of course, he hopes that his first-round pick works out, just like every other team.
