The 2024 Trade Deadline is swiftly approaching, currently less than a month away. With clubs trying to figure out where their strategy is going, the Philadelphia Flyers appear to be all over the place. They have a shot to make the playoffs, but they have a lot of assets they might deal if they fall out of contention. Sean Walker, Nick Seeler, and Scott Laughton are all expected to be relocated before the deadline. However, it appears that forward Travis Konecny will be re-signed.
In a recent 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman revealed that he believes the Flyers have decided to re-sign Konecny. He also thinks it’ll be pricey. Friedman said:
Konecny could have fetched a lot of future assets if dealt, but keeping him means they’ll have someone to develop around for the next few seasons. Some believe that the value of having outweighs what he will receive in a deadline deal.
Konecny Has Been A Productive Forward For The Flyers.
Konecny, a 26-year-old right-shot forward from London, Ontario, stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 174 pounds. After a successful season with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), he was selected 24th overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Flyers. That season, he scored 29 goals and 39 assists for 68 points in 60 games. He followed up with another excellent season, scoring seven goals and providing 38 assists for 45 points in 29 games. He was traded to the Sarnia Sting, where he recorded 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 31 games.
Konecny has 165 goals and 212 assists in 540 games, for a total of 377 points. That translates to an average of 0.70 points per game. He has established himself as a formidable offensive producer capable of reliably scoring twenty goals per season. If the Flyers refuse to trade him, Konecny might receive a huge extension.
