Report: Steelers Planned to seek Notable QB In Open Agency.
During the 2022 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected former University of Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett with their first-round choice.
The anticipation was that he would emerge as the Steelers’ next great franchise quarterback after longtime QB Ben Roethlisberger retired.
Unfortunately, Pickett has struggled throughout his first two seasons in Pittsburgh, and it appears that the franchise is already investigating other quarterback choices for the 2024 season.
According to NFL Media’s Gara fMike olo, the Steelers will consider signing free-agent veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill this offseason (via Dov Kleiman on Twitter).
Vick exemplified today’s signal-callers, who can move the chains with their legs as well as hit on precision passes downfield.
He was the No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft, and in his first six professional seasons, all with the Atlanta Falcons, he made the Pro Bowl three times and surpassed 1,000 running yards in 2006.
Of course, Vick’s career was nearly wrecked in 2007 when he pled guilty to his role in a dogfighting operation, resulting in a 21-month sentence in federal prison.
While the incident made him a villain in the eyes of some, he had a fantastic comeback season in 2010 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was named to the Pro Bowl and set new career highs in pass completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and rushing touchdowns.
That production earned him the Comeback Player of the Year honour.
