Continuity thru familiarity: The offensive contributions of Thomas Brown and Chad Morton to the Chicago Bears…
Chicago, Illinois – One intriguing tendency has surfaced since the Chicago Bears offensive staff is purportedly in place.
Experience exists, but familiarity also exists.
so means the Bears will have offensive continuity for the first time since, well, the Ron Turner era in the 2000s, if one may argue so.
This is what every new recruit adds to the group.
Putting aside jokes about the coaching tree of Sean McVay, Brown’s appointment is important.
When Brown was 36 years old as the Los Angeles Rams’ assistant head coach, he was getting head coach interviews (The Athletic, 2022). That was not a coincidence.
As the Bears’ passing game coordinator under offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, he brings that growing profile with him. The appointment of Brown was first reported by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
In the coaching community, Thomas is a budding young talent. He collaborated with Bryce Young as the offensive coordinator for the Panthers the previous season, but he was unemployed following Frank Reich’s dismissal.
He didn’t lack opportunities this offseason either. He was interviewed by the Steelers and Patriots for the offensive coordinator post and by the Titans for head coaching.
The 37-year-old Brown also met with the Bears for the position of offensive coordinator, but he will work with the recently appointed Waldron; the two are not strangers. In 2020, Brown and Waldron shared an office on the Rams staff.
