The 30-year-old centre-back has been a regular for the Magpies this season, with Eddie Howe transforming Lascelles into one of Newcastle’s most consistent performers.
A £7m signing from Nottingham Forest nearly ten years ago, Lascelles’ Newcastle career has been an interesting one, and the defender’s form has now caught the attention of Besiktas.
According to Sabah, the Turkish giants are in talks to bring the defender to Istanbul, though the report states Newcastle are not interested in selling their club captain.
Lauded by Dan Burn as ‘unbelievable’ earlier in the season, it’s no real shock that Newcastle are eager to retain Lascelles’ services for the remainder of the campaign.
The Toon are currently unable to make any signings due to FFP restrictions, and whilst selling Lascelles could open up some funds, the Magpies might struggle to find a defender who can replace the 30-year-old.
Newcastle can’t let Jamal Lascelles leave for Besiktas
It’s clear that Newcastle will need to sell if they are to spend this January, though given Lascelles’ role in the Toon squad, offloading the defender to Besiktas could be a mistake.
As we know, Lascelles has become one of Howe’s most trusted players in the last two years, with the defender one of the first names on the teamsheet.
And although a move could be good for Lascelles this year, Newcastle will be wise to wait until the end of the season to consider moving on the former Forest defender.
