A star coming back to Texas in 2024 for the upcoming season with eyes on…
Quinn Ewers, the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, declared on Instagram on Thursday that he will play a third season with the team in 2024 rather than returning to the NFL Draft. Ewers, who is ranked No. 30 in CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospect Rankings, assisted Texas in 2023 as they had a breakthrough campaign. The Longhorns advanced to the College Football Playoffs and lost to Washington in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal after winning their first Big 12 title since 2009.
After an early season injury derailed his Longhorns debut in 2022 and he was inconsistent the rest of the way, Ewers showed significant development during his second season as the starting quarterback. By season’s end in 2023, he had ran for five more touchdowns and completed his passing career with 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns against six interceptions.
After getting hurt at Houston in the middle of the season, Ewers missed two starts; however, the Texas team won both games in his absence, with backup Maalik Murphy starting in his stead. Since then, Murphy moved to Duke.
With Ewers’ decision now official, it’s unfinished business for the former No. 1 overall recruit in the country as the Longhorns seek a return to the College Football Playoff in 2024, still in pursuit of their first national championship since 2005.
