We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.
Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa have made a “really big statement” by signing their new deal with Adidas to become their kit manufacturer.
It was reported by talkSPORT on 9 January that Nassef Sawiris, who owns a stake in Adidas was key to clinching the deal, showing the influence of NSWE yet again.
The finance expert admitted that the influence of the owners was helpful, but that the German giants don’t sign new deals lightly with the upward trajectory of the club beneficial to them too.
“It’s a really big statement,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“Obviously, it’s the first time I think Villa have partnered with Adidas in their history.
“They are one of the biggest kit suppliers, people look at Adidas, Nike, and Puma are the three and Adidas and Nike have been the biggest for generations now.
“It’s a really big statement from the club, and obviously the link into their ownership structure, there is a link with the owners and Adidas which is helpful and, of course, plays to your strengths
“Again, Adidas don’t enter into deals lightly as well so they will be seeing the rise of Aston Villa and the plans for the future, it’s another club to add to their connection that is on a positive trajectory so when you stack all of that up versus the Castore deal and the deals before that and no disrespect to them, this is the league above if you like in shirt sponsorship and provider.
“It’s a good move for Villa all around and a big statement of intent to have a kit supplier like Adidas.”
