The gambling hits just keep on coming for the NFL as another player was suspended for betting on NFL games the NFL announced on Monday afternoon. Plus, the Raiders and Ravens added some help in the secondary ahead of training camp.
Raiders Sign Veteran CB Marcus Peters
Josh Jacobs may have been seen flying out of Las Vegas, but Marcus Peters will not be the next NFL player to catch a flight out of town. After a visit and a workout today, the veteran cornerback is signing with the Raiders.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Marcus Peters is in agreement with the Raiders on a one-year deal.
Las Vegas is desperate for help at cornerback, but less so now. Marcus Peters visited the Raiders this spring and after flying to Vegas for a second look, he’s sticking around. Peters has been with the Ravens since 2019 and is a former All-Pro and Pro Bowler. Peters logged 47 tackles, an interception, a sack and two fumble recoveries in 13 starts with the Ravens last season.
Prior to Peters’ signing, the Raiders were looking at the prospect of having David Long Jr. and Duke Shelley as their starting outside cornerbacks with Nate Hobbs as their nickelback. Peters helps that group somewhat, but the Vegas secondary is still in rough shape heading into the 2023 season.
Vegas also signed defensive lineman Isaac Rochell. Rochell appeared in one game for the Raiders last season. He played six games for the Browns, recording 12 tackles in those games. He spent the rest of the season on the Browns and Raiders practice squads. Rochell played 12 games for the Colts in 2021 and appeared in 51 games with the Chargers during his first four seasons in the NFL. The Notre Dame aulmn has 103 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and an interception for his career.
