The Bears reinstated running back Khalil Herbert from injured reserve on Saturday, as expected, before of Sunday’s game against the Lions in Detroit.
Herbert took part in full practice this week after missing the previous five games due to an ankle issue. He carried for 272 yards on 51 rushes and grabbed 10 catches for 83 yards and one touchdown in his first five games this season.
I feel like I’m right back where I was,” Herbert said. “I took five weeks off.” I’ve simply been getting my body and mind in order, and I’m feeling great.
It’s uncertain how the Bears will distribute playing time among Herbert, D’Onta Foreman, and Roschon Johnson.[Herbert] has been strong, really strong during practice, and we like where he is,” coach Matt Eberflus said. “If he’s on a pitch count, we feel great about Foreman, Roschon, and those guys carrying the load or doing part of the work.” But Herbert has looked fantastic this week.”
Herbert may share carries with Foreman, who has performed admirably in Herbert’s absence, gaining at least 80 yards in three of the previous four games.
“We find that balance through on-the-fly production and game flow,” Eberflus explained. “We’ll have a plan in terms of reps, but tactically you look and see, ‘OK, who’s hot, who’s running it the right way?'”
“It’s our responsibility to get both of them involved because they’ve both played well.” Certainly, Khalil performed extremely well while he was in there, and D’Onta’s addition has been really beneficial to us. I believe it’s fantastic to be able to throw different types of runners at a defense. It’s always difficult to defend against diverse sorts, especially when they both run the same type of runs, which is also very cool. It’s a lucky thing to have.
