Aston Villa are interested in Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, it is claimed.
The 20-year-old has impressed in central defence for the Posh this season having played almost every minute of their League One campaign so far. Peterborough currently sit third in their division after 25 games.
And now Villa are said to be the latest side interested in signing Edwards according to the Mail on Sunday. Fellow Premier League sides West Ham and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested, with the latter reported to have had three bids rejected for him.
It has been previously claimed by the Independent that Peterborough are holding out for £10million for the defender. The high price is reported to be because Barnet have a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
One complication for Palace is reportedly that Edwards has just 18 months on his contract. However, there is said to be room for negotiation if he is allowed return on loan until the end of the season.
Villa currently have Clement Lenglet, Diego Carlos, Kortney Hause and Ezri Konsa available in central defence. Pau Torres is out with an ankle injury whilst Tyrone Mings is not expected to return until next season after the knee injury he sustained in Villa’s opening match of the campaign against Newcastle.
