Despite success at every level of football, former Oklahoma football legend and current Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray still has his doubters. Murray, the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, won Rookie of the Year, tossing 20 touchdowns in his first season with the Cardinals. The former Heisman Trophy winner continued to improve, earning two Pro Bowl nods over the next two seasons. He accounted for 74 touchdowns while leading the Red Birds to the playoffs in 2021, just four years after the franchise won only three games.
However, when new contract negotiations began, fans and ownership alike questioned Murray’s work ethic and ability to be a long-term answer for a franchise. Owner Michael Bidwill even put a clause in his contract to watch a certain amount of film per week (it has since been removed). On Friday, former Cardinals teammate and longtime Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy came to Murray’s defense.
