Aston Villa are expected to bring in two first-team players before the January transfer window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, editor Wayne Veysey revealed that a forward is the top priority for the Midlands giants with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho among the targets.
Sources also told Football Insider (3 January) that Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are both in talks with Emery’s side over signing Jhon Duran on loan this month.
Duran is expected to depart this winter amid his lack of game time and the club are keen to bring in new attacking talent in their bid to stay in the Premier League top four.
Sources have told Football Insider that the club will look to shift players out of the squad through permanent moves or loans before bringing in new recruits.
Werner has struggled to establish himself as a starter this season amid frequent injury setbacks and has played just 203 minutes in the league in his second season back at Leipzig.
His stock fell dramatically after his underwhelming £47.5million move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020, but he notched 16 goals and 6 assists last season for the Red Bulls.
Football Insider also revealed (24 December) that Villa believe Iheanacho could be prized away from Leicester City for around £5-10million in the January transfer window.
Villa sit second in the Premier League table after their dramatic 3-2 win against Burnley on Saturday (30 December) and next face Middlesbrough away in the FA Cup third round.
