An Open Letter to Stevie
*From Lindsey Buckingham*
Regarding Our Reunion, the Upcoming Tour, and a New Chapter for Mick
Dear Stevie,
Time is a strange companion. It has a way of stretching moments we thought we’d forgotten and folding decades into what feels like mere seconds. And now, as I write to you—after years of silence, years of distance—I realize that time never really took us apart. Not truly.
We’ve lived lifetimes inside this music, you and I. We’ve battled, built, broken, and rebuilt. Our story has been told too many times, too often simplified into heartbreak ballads and backstage tension. But beneath it all has always been one thing: the music. That invisible tether that pulled us through storm after storm.
So here we are again.
Stevie, I want to say this clearly, simply, and publicly: thank you. Thank you for picking up the phone. Thank you for letting go of the old weight. Thank you for seeing the value in not just what we *were*, but what we *still are*—and what we *can be again.*
When we sat together earlier this year—two weathered souls in a sunlit room in Los Angeles—I felt it. Not just nostalgia, not just closure. I felt *potential.* And when we strummed that first chord together, I knew we weren’t looking backward. We were planting something new.
Our decision to reunite wasn’t just about us. It was about honoring what Fleetwood Mac always stood for: evolution, survival, and deep, complicated love. And more than that—it was about **Mick**.
Mick was always the anchor. The unpredictable, endlessly loyal heartbeat that kept this mad machine moving. His presence, towering yet gentle, gave us space to fall apart and come back together—over and over again. Losing him still feels unreal. It’s like we lost a part of our own rhythm. I know how much he meant to you. To all of us. There’s no Fleetwood Mac without Mick—but there *is* a future that carries his spirit.
And that’s why this next chapter is for him.
Stevie, the new album—we both feel it—is not just a collection of songs. It’s a conversation across time. It’s a letter to Mick, to ourselves, to the fans who have carried us through generations. It’s not perfect. Neither are we. But it’s *honest*—raw, melodic, aching, and alive.
Writing with you again reminded me of our earliest days. Those nights on the floor in our little apartment, guitars in hand, dreaming bigger than we had any right to. That push-and-pull we’ve always had—it’s still there. Maybe a little softer now, more understanding. But it’s real. And the songs we’ve made—*“Drum Shadows,” “Echoed Sky,” “Fleetwood’s Prayer”*—they are our truest voices in years.
And now, we take it to the road.
This **North American tour** is more than a celebration. It’s a healing. For us, for the band, and for the audiences who’ve walked this winding path with us. We’ll be playing the songs people know by heart, but also sharing the new—letting people witness the latest version of us. Weathered, but not worn out. Scarred, but still singing.
I know it won’t always be easy. We’ve never been that kind of duo. But I promise you, Stevie: I’m walking into this with eyes open, heart open, and a willingness to make it *work.* Not because the world expects it, but because the *music* still does.
I’ve come to believe that reconciliation is a creative act. It takes imagination, courage, and faith. And you’ve shown all of that. So I’ll meet you there—on the stage, in the studio, in the uncertain space between notes—ready to write this new chapter.
To our fans: Thank you for not giving up on us, even when we gave up on each other. You’ve carried this music in your own stories—in the hard days, the love affairs, the road trips, the goodbyes. We see you. This tour and this album are for you as much as they are for Mick.
To Mick: We feel you in every beat. Every rhythm still starts with you. This record bears your name because you were, and will always be, the soul of this band.
And Stevie—thank you again. For the harmonies, the history, and the hope. Let’s make this beautiful, messy, meaningful one more time.
