Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to jail records from the Hennepin County (Minn.) Sheriff’s Office.

Peterson, who spent nearly a decade with the Minnesota Vikings, was in town for an NFL Draft party at U.S. Bank Stadium, where the Vikings play, according to KSTP.

Hennepin County jail records show that Peterson was arrested early on the morning of Friday, April 25, and released hours later on $4,000 bail.

Peterson was charged with fourth-degree driving while impaired in Minnesota, according to jail records.

Peterson entered detainment at 5:16 a.m. local time, hours after he attended the Vikings draft party as a featured guest. During the event, he joined the KFAN 1003 broadcast.

According to Patrol Lt. Mike Lee, Peterson was pulled over in an Audi Q5 for driving 83 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone at 3:20 a.m. in Richfield, located about seven miles from U.S. Bank Stadium. Peterson’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit in Minnesota.

The 40-year-old spent 10 seasons of his 15-year career with the Vikings, totaling 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns with the franchise. He also spent time with New Orleans, Arizona, Washington, Detroit and Tennessee before concluding his career by appearing in one game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.

Peterson previously faced legal trouble in 2014 when he was accused of using a switch to discipline his then 4-year-old son and eventually agreed to a plea deal that included a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault. The NFL suspended Peterson for all but one game in the 2014 season. In 2023, he was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport on a charge of felony domestic violence following an incident with his wife on a plane. Charges stemming from the incident were later dropped.
