Kim Caldwell, the head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers women’s basketball team, has made a significant impact on the sport in her first season at the helm. In December 2024, under Caldwell’s leadership, the Lady Vols set a new NCAA record by making 30 three-pointers in a single game during their 139–59 victory over North Carolina Central. This performance not only broke the NCAA Division I women’s basketball record but also surpassed records in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, WNBA, and NBA history. The team’s high-efficiency shooting was led by senior guard Samara Spencer, who set a school record with nine three-pointers and scored 33 points.

Caldwell’s coaching prowess was recognized when she received a one-year contract extension from the University of Tennessee, keeping her with the Lady Vols through March 2030. In a remarkable display of dedication, Caldwell returned to coaching just one week after giving birth to her first child, Conor Scott, on January 20, 2025. She was back on the sidelines by January 27 for a game against No. 2 South Carolina, where Tennessee lost 70–63. Her return was met with a standing ovation from fans at Food City Center, highlighting her commitment to her team and the sport.
Trailblazer Award Recognition.
In February 2025, Caldwell was presented with the inaugural Trailblazer Award by three legendary former players: Candace Parker, Chamique Holdsclaw, and Tamika Catchings. This award recognized her outstanding contributions to the Lady Vols program and women’s basketball as a whole. The ceremony in Knoxville was a powerful acknowledgment of Caldwell’s impact on the sport and her role in continuing the legacy of excellence established by those who came before her.

With a coaching career that includes leading Glenville State to an NCAA Division II National Championship and a successful stint at Marshall, Caldwell has proven her ability to build winning programs.
