Ashton Hardaway, the son of Memphis Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway, has navigated a distinctive path in his collegiate basketball career, marked by significant decisions and transitions. After committing to Memphis in 2022, playing his freshman year under his father’s guidance, and transferring to Saint Mary’s College in 2024, recent developments have taken another turn. Reports indicate that Ashton has committed to the University of Tennessee, choosing the Volunteers over Memphis and Alabama.

Early Career and Commitment to Memphis.

Ashton Hardaway’s basketball journey began at Sierra Canyon High School in California, where he earned recognition as a four-star recruit. Standing 6-foot-8, he was celebrated for his shooting prowess and versatility on the court. In November 2022, Ashton committed to the University of Memphis to play for his father, Penny Hardaway. He expressed that his decision was heavily influenced by his father’s experience and guidance, stating, “Really, my dad. He’s been at the highest level before and he knows what it takes to get there.
