A VERY SAD NEWS FOR LSU TIGERS…

Friday Afternoon marked the start of SEC Play in College Baseball as the Top Ranked LSU Baseball team faced off against the Missouri Tigers. The LSU Baseball team was playing with heavy hearts as Sandy Bertman the wife of legendary coach Skip Bertman passed away on Friday.

The Missouri Tigers drew first blood as Kade Anderson surrendered a two run home run to Ross Lovich giving Mizzou a 2-0 lead. Anderson’s team had his back however, as Luis Hernandez got the two runs back almost instantly crushing a two run home run to bring the game back even.

As Kade Anderson settled in, his offense was able to give LSU a massive lead allowing him to test hitters. Derek Curiel blew the game open in the fourth inning with a three run triple down the right field line giving LSU a 5-2 lead. Daniel Dickinson would bring Curiel on a groundout before Jake Brown brought Jared Jones home on a pinch hit RBI single.

Jake Brown struck again in the 6th inning with an RBI double to left field which drove in Chris Stanfield and Jared Jones to make it 9-2 lead.

As the Tigers led by seven, Jay Johnson allowed Kade Anderson to go out for the 7th inning nearing 100 pitches and he left the game with two aboard. Connor Benge limited the damage but, did allow a third run to score on a sacrifice fly. Kade Anderson finished the game going 6.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out 11 for the second straight game.

Connor Benge struggled in the 8th inning allowing two solo home runs which made it a 9-5 ball game sending Johnson back to the bullpen. DJ Primeaux came on and got two straight outs for Johnson before he turned the ball over to Zac Cowan.

The Tigers plated a tenth run in the bottom of the 8th in part thanks to the lights as Daniel Dickinson got a “lost in the lights” double before Jake Brown plated Derek Curiel. Steven Milam picked up his first base hit of the game blasting a two run shot into the bleachers in right to make it 12-5 LSU.

After picking up an out in the 8th inning, Zac Cowan came back on in the ninth inning quickly dismantling Missouri to clinch the win for LSU.

Jake Brown was the Player of the Game for LSU coming off of the bench and finishing the game 2-2 with four RBIs in an impressive showing. Luis Hernandez and Steven Milam gave LSU all the power they’d need with each hitting a two run home run for LSU. Derek Curiel continues to impress as in his first SEC game he finishes 2-5 with 3 RBIs and a triple.\

Kade Anderson continues to be a great Friday starter for LSU as he’s provided length in every start which has kept the bullpen intact for the weekend. While LSU hasn’t had Gavin Guidry, Zac Cowan has filled in nicely as LSU’s stopper giving the Tigers a four out showing to close out this matchup.

LSU is back in action on Saturday as they’ll look to clinch the series with Anthony Eyanson on the mound.
