DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks saw their season end in disappointment, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Despite holding an 8-5 record heading into Week 15 and being in a strong position to secure a postseason spot, two consecutive losses derailed their campaign, leaving them with a 10-7 record and falling short to the Los Angeles Rams.
Since joining Seattle in 2019, Metcalf has established himself as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers. However, the rise of second-year standout Jaxon Smith-Njigba contributed to a slight decline in Metcalf’s production. In the 2024 season, the former Ole Miss star posted 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns, marking his lowest output since his rookie year.
Amid his underwhelming season and Smith-Njigba’s growing role, Metcalf has become the subject of trade speculation. Tyler Brooks of The 33rd Team suggests that Metcalf would be an ideal trade target for the Los Angeles Chargers, forming a dynamic partnership with quarterback Justin Herbert, who signed a five-year, $262.5 million deal in 2023.
“Metcalf is entering the final year of his contract, and the Seahawks may prioritize gaining value from their former draft gem rather than risk losing him in free agency,” Brooks explained. “The Los Angeles Chargers could provide a perfect fit, combining Metcalf’s deep-threat skills with Herbert’s exceptional arm talent and Ladd McConkey’s effectiveness in the short-to-intermediate passing game.”

According to Tyler Brooks, the Chargers would send a 2025 third-round pick to the Seahawks in exchange for DK Metcalf, along with a 2025 sixth-round pick coming back to Los Angeles.
Justin Herbert and the Chargers had their postseason cut short after a 32-12 loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round. While it wasn’t the ending that first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh envisioned, the Chargers have a promising foundation with Herbert and an emerging offensive core, making a potential Metcalf acquisition even more intriguing for the team’s future.
Rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey had an impressive debut season with the Chargers, tallying 82 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns, proving to be a reliable weapon for Justin Herbert. However, the rest of the Chargers’ receiving corps has underperformed, leaving room for improvement.
Bringing in DK Metcalf to line up alongside McConkey could transform the Chargers’ offense into a high-powered unit. With Metcalf’s deep-threat ability complementing McConkey’s versatility, Herbert and head coach Jim Harbaugh would have a dynamic duo capable of elevating the team’s offensive production to new heights.
